The Sanitation/Trash/Compost Department operates from the Columbus City Garage located at 2250 Kreutzer Drive, just off Gladstone Avenue.
The City of Columbus eliminated trash fees for residents for one (1) city owned or city approved toter. This current bill no longer reflects charges for trash fees unless you have multiple toters. Each household is allowed one (1) toter; you will be charged a monthly trash fee for any additional toter you have and the trash fee amount is based on the size of the toter. Your collection day, toter placement and all other rules about toter use remain the same.
If you desire to change the size of trash toter at your location, there will be a one time $30 charge for this exchange. The fee will be placed on your utility bill.
Trash collection is provided by the City of Columbus one time per week. New residents and newly annexed areas will need to contact the Sanitation Department at (812) 376-2509 to purchase trash toter & start trash collection. If you purchase the trash toter the toter goes with you when you move again. If the City provided you with a toter (under the old ordinance) it stays with the home. Serial numbers on the toters are assigned to each property address.
Trash toters - Brown trash toters are available in three sizes, with a service charge invoiced monthly for multiple toters:
96 gallon - $70; 64 gallon - $60; or 48 gallon - $55
We accept cash or check for payment, checks should be made out to "City of Columbus" and once we receive payment we will deliver the toter to your home.
Yard waste toters - If you wish to participate in the City’s Compost Program, you may purchase a “TOTER” brand yard waste toter with a bar at Lowes Home Improvement Store or at Wal-Mart. Lowes has both the 96 and 64 gallon sizes available and Wal-Mart carries the 64 gallon size.
Multiple trash toters is invoiced monthly on your Columbus City Utilities water/sewer bill, according to toter size.
