Gary Henderson, Columbus Fire Chief

Gary L. Henderson was appointed Fire Chief in 2000 under the administration of Mayor Fred Armstrong.  Gary was hired on the Columbus Fire Department in 1982 and served as a Firefighter, Sergeant, Fire Inspector, and Fire Marshall prior to being appointed to Fire Chief.

Born and raised in Hope, IN, Gary is a graduate of Hauser High School.  Gary and his wife Teresa have one daughter, Lauren, and reside in Columbus. He served as co-chair for the Firemen’s Cheer Fund from 1985-1988 and was actively involved with the Leadership Bartholomew County in 1996.  He has served as a board member for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and served as a board member of Hope Summer Playground.  He served as a referee to different sporting events in the area and still enjoys attending the local events when time permits.
