Mayor Volunteers in Ice Water Rescue Training

The Columbus Fire Department has taken advantage of recent cold weather to train for ice-water rescue emergencies. Firefighters trained at ice-covered area ponds Monday, January 7, through Wednesday, January 9, to be well prepared to use the fire department's specialized ice-water rescue equipment.

Mayor Kristen Brown supported the firefighters by volunteering to be a victim in the training exercise. Mayor Brown wore a special cold-water suit and plunged into an icy pond at Mill Race Park to give firefighters a person to pull from the ice.
