Mayor Kristen Brown is welcoming all community members to her State of the City address at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at The Commons. The theme of Mayor Brown’s presentation is, “Advancing Columbus to be the very best community of its size in the country.”
Mayor Brown will focus her address on the state of city government, the state of our community and the vision for our community’s future. Mayor Brown will highlight the accomplishments of city government last year and year to date in her address. She will also report on the financial condition of the City of Columbus.
Looking forward, Mayor Brown will share the community-wide strategic plan, “Advance Columbus,” she developed over the last year with a steering committee with broad community representation, as well as, with the leadership of many of the primary public and private organizations dedicated to serving the community. The plan sets a long-term, shared vision for the community “to be the very best community of its size in the country.” It also outlines our community’s values, shared priorities and shared goals.
The plan is a live document that will serve as a starting point for broad-based community dialogues, quantifiable measures of success and public-private collaborations. It develops a shared vision, shared priorities, shared goals and shared solutions that offer a clear roadmap of our community’s future.
“The community owns this plan and the agenda and will adapt and evolve it to ensure it continuously represents a partnership with the people for the people,” Mayor Brown said. “It is more than an initiative of the mayor or of city government. We are one city with many great public and private organizations serving the community. We need one plan to most effectively marshal our limited resources for the greatest impact. This provides the enormous promise of solving our most serious challenges and capitalizing on our most promising opportunities.”
Mayor Brown’s presentation will be followed by a reception for the public with members of the City Council, the Clerk-Treasurer, members of the Board of Public Works and Safety and city government department heads.
