Two New Officers Join Columbus Police

Mayor Kristen Brown has sworn in two new Columbus Police Department officers to serve the City of Columbus.

Paul Garnett

Paul Garnett was sworn in November 13, 2012. Officer Garnett is originally from Dayton, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Wright State University in Dayton.  Officer Garnett is also a Sergeant in the Ohio National Guard, where he has served for 9 years, including a deployment to Kuwait in 2008.

Officer Garnett, age 31, is married.  He and his wife, Sarah, will be moving to Columbus soon.  Officer Garnett will begin training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy on December 3 with another recently hired officer, Alyson Rech. The academy training is 15 weeks, which will be followed by a 14 week field training program conducted by CPD.

Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix stated, “Officer Garnett has the perfect combination of education, military training, and life experience that we are seeking. He is a highly qualified applicant who caught our attention very quickly.  We are excited to have him as a part of the team.”

Chief Jason Maddix stated, “We were lucky to get Alyson because she was being actively recruited by several other police agencies.  She’s a sharp young lady and we are confident she will be an asset to our department.”

Officer Rech stated, “I have always wanted to be a police officer. I am honored and privileged to have the opportunity to work at the Columbus Police Department.  I am looking forward to serving the citizens of Columbus.”

Officer Rech will begin training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy on December 3 with Officer Garnett.
