6.16.020 Spaying and neutering.
Any dog or cat adopted from the animal control center must be
spayed or neutered by a licensed
veterinarian. If the dog or cat is an adult, such operation shall be performed within one month of
adoption. If the dog or cat is too young to undergo the operation within one month of adoption, it
shall be neutered by a licensed veterinarian by the age of eight months if male, or spayed, if female,
by a licensed veterinarian by the age of six months. An exception is only made if a licensed
veterinarian certifies that said animal is physically unable to undergo such an operation within the
time limitations. In which case the dog or cat is to be spayed or neutered as soon as the veterinarian
determines that the animal is able. (Prior code § 4-43)
