Suspect Arrested After 90 Minute Pursuit

Suspect Apprehended After 90 Minute Pursuit

A local man is in custody after he led area law enforcement officers on a 90 minute pursuit with his girlfriend and eight month old child inside the vehicle. On Saturday at approximately 12:05 p.m., a Columbus police officer observed a 2005 Ford Focus without a rear bumper near 8th Street and Maple Street.  The officer observed that the license plate was in the rear window of the vehicle and the vehicle was occupied by an adult male driver and adult female front seat passenger.  The officer did not observe any occupants in the back seat. A license plate check revealed that the driver, Kyle I. Pacek, 28, had two local warrants for his arrest.  When the officer attempted to stop Pacek, he refused to pull over and initially led officers on a low speed pursuit on the north side of the city.  A short time later, Pacek increased his speed and led officers out of Columbus and into Bartholomew County.  The pursuit continued into southern Decatur County and northern Jennings County at speeds approaching 80 miles per hour.  During the pursuit Pacek avoided several tire deflation devices placed by officers.  Pacek reentered Bartholomew County at the end of the pursuit and came to a stop in the 7800 block of South County Road 800 East.  Pacek’s vehicle was inadvertently rear ended by a Jennings County Sheriff’s Department vehicle and Pacek exited the car and began fleeing on foot.  Pacek was apprehended by an Indiana State Police Trooper a short time later.  When officers approached Pacek’s vehicle, they observed that Pacek’s eight month old child, who was not injured, was in the backseat of the vehicle.  Pacek’s front seat passenger declined medical treatment for a minor facial injury.  Pacek was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and remanded with a 48 hour hold on the following preliminary charges:

Two Bartholomew County Body Attachment Warrants

Neglect of a Dependent (Level 6 Felony)

Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle Resulting in Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony)

Resisting Law Enforcement on Foot (Class A Misdemeanor)

Criminal Recklessness (Class B Misdemeanor)

Criminal Confinement (Level 5 Felony)

The Indiana State Police, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Greensburg Police Department, Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department assisted C.P.D. during the pursuit.
