On Monday, March 24, 2014, the Columbus Redevelopment Commission held a Special Meeting to receive the findings of the Analysis of the Crump Theatre Feasibility Report by theatrical consultants and design company Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc.
On Thursday, April 24, 2014, the consultants held a public presentation and provided the community different scenarios for The Crump.
Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc. was selected from five theatrical consulting firms who responded to the Request For Proposal to provide a feasibility study of the Crump Theatre and recommendations for repurposing or renovating. Jones & Phillips partnered with URS Engineering to conduct a demographic and needs analysis along with an engineering analysis of the current state of the Crump. The two firms then explored ways that the Crump could meet the needs of the community.
The consultants spent nearly a year touring all of Columbus’ theatre/gathering/meeting spaces, conducting stakeholder interviews, identifying and reviewing the facilities and art groups in five peer communities and performing in-depth, walk-through analyses and studies of the Crump’s structural integrity two major gaps were identified. Columbus lacks a small dedicated facility for local performance and gathering needs (to include children’s theatre). Columbus lacks a performance house large enough to bring professional touring entertainment to town (road shows, concerts, etc.).
