The inaugural Mill Race Marathon, powered by Cummins, on September 28th, 2013, will require some city streets to be closed or restricted on Friday, September 27th, and Saturday, September 28th.
The course for the marathon, half-marathon, and 5k run all begin and end at Cummins Inc. headquarters, 500 Jackson Street.
The 5k course goes through Mill Race Park to Third Street and comes back into downtown Columbus on Second Street, up Brown Street to 11th Street and finishes on Jackson Street.
The half marathon also goes through Mill Race Park, loops around the Cummins Engine Plant, goes south on Central to State Street, follows State Street to Marr Road, and then wraps around to as far north as 23rd Street before winding back down to the finish line on Jackson Street.
The full marathon begins the same as the half marathon, but goes as far east as Flintwood Drive and as far north as the Columbus Municipal Airport before winding back south along River Road and other streets, finally ending at the finish line on Jackson Street.

These routes require a number of city streets to be fully closed to traffic or have lane restrictions on Saturday, September 28th. There are more than two dozen lane restrictions and 18 street closures. Most streets will be reopened by afternoon on Saturday, September 28th.
Fourth Street between Brown Street and Washington Street and between Washington Street and Franklin Street will be closed from noon on Friday, September 27th to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28th. Additionally, Washington Street between Third and Fifth streets will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28th.
These portions of downtown streets will be closed for festivities surrounding the marathon, including family activities, a zip line, a rock climbing wall, food and craft vendors. These festivities are being organized and sponsored by downtown businesses.
