The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) welcomed a new Columbus Firefighter to the department on Tuesday morning, returning the department to full staffing. Firefighter Ryan Gustin was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon during Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting at Columbus City Hall.

Ryan Gustin, 28, is a Bargersville resident and 2014 graduate of New Haven High School (Fort Wayne). Gustin attended Indiana University where he studied Criminal Justice. Gustin’s previous fire service experience includes working with the Edinburgh Fire Department. Gustin holds a Firefighter I & II certification as well as Hazardous Materials Awareness level certification.

All Columbus Firefighters undergo a department orientation and training program. Firefighters not previously certified will obtain a Basic Emergency Medical Technician certification, Firefighter I & II certification and Hazardous Materials Operations and Awareness certifications. At the completion of training certification requirements, Firefighter Gustin will receive a station and shift assignment.
