Welcome to the Columbus, Indiana Police Department!
Each day the men and women of this department work hard to achieve our mission “To Protect and Serve.” In doing so, we not only use traditional means of policing, but also provide community policing efforts so that we can meet the service needs specific to individual people and neighborhoods. In addition, we provide a variety of specialty units in order to further our ability to respond to a variety of situations – learn more in our special units drop-down menu.
Furthermore, it is our goal to build relationships with members of our community, as we believe a close relationship with the community is critical to our success. Accordingly, we provide a variety of opportunities to facilitate this goal, such as our CPD Cadet Program, D.A.R.E., and CPD Community Programs.
Finally, in order to stay current with our department and events we offer, please join us on our social media sites (Facebook and Twitter).
To demonstrate the professional law enforcement services provided by the Columbus Police Department, CPD attained dual accreditation. CPD achieved international accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and state accreditation through the Indiana Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (ILEAC). These achievements are a validation of excellence and an assurance that we are constantly making improvements to best serve the citizens of Columbus.
Our goal is to continue building the community’s confidence and trust in our department, and ensure that we are always providing the professional public safety services the citizens and visitors of Columbus expect and deserve.
